Black Bear Hunting Northern Saskatchewan with Lost River Camps
Thanks for your interest in Lost River Camps. We are located in the northern reaches of Saskatchewan, so far north in fact that most maps cut off this portion of the province because there are just a couple dirt roads and small villages here. This is what makes this area so rich with black bears, Canadian moose, northern pike, arctic grayling, and lake trout. There is an abundance of other wildlife too. There are bald eagles that nest along the river that we see daily, osprey, geese, ducks, and the ever-present (by sight and sound) loons.
Our camps and outfitters permit allows hunting of moose and bear in all of hunting districts 74 and 76. Where this is unique is most permits allow only hunting in portions of a hunting district and you are limited to hunting in townships or sections. Units 74 and 76 cover nearly 60,000 square miles and thousands of lakes. There are 12 flyout lakes in the Geikie River allocations that are exclusive fishing rights that do not allow any other fishing.
Currently there are 4 allocated moose tags to us, so if you want to moose hunt book early. Each year we usually get some extra tags so please contact us and we can put you on standby if we have already booked our 4 allotted tags. We are unlimited on black bear tags but look to harvest less than 50 bears per year, with this harvest rate of bears each year we will not be touching the population. The provincial population is estimated at 35,000 plus bears, and the highest population is in the north, right where we hunt.
In the Geikie River we have arctic grayling, walleye, pike, red bellied suckers, lake whitefish, and an occasional lake trout. With the fishing allocation there is about 17 miles of river fishing right from camp. The largest pike we have caught on the river was 51½ inches and was right at 40 lbs., the largest out of our lakes was 56 inches. I feel confident that one day a 60+ incher will be boated.
